Lise reunites with Edward Gardner and the Bergen Philharmonic this month for two performances of Richard Strauss’ Four Last Songs. The concerts take place at Bergen’s Grieghallen on 14 and 15 February. Lise is a regular guest of the orchestra and was Artist in Residence last season, singing Sibelius, Wagner and Grieg in concert as well as performing in recital with James Baillieu.

In contrast to the adolescent daring of his overture Don Juan, Strauss’s Four Last Songs were the composer’s resigned farewell to creative life and an elegy for Germany, destroyed by fascism and war.

On 31 January and 2 February, Lise makes her role debut as Sieglinde in two concert performances of Act I of Wagner’s Die Walküre with the Toronto Symphony Orchestra under the baton of Sir Andrew Davis. She is joined for the concerts by Simon O’Neill and Brindley Sherratt.

Lise returns to the works of Wagner later this season when she makes her Bayreuth Festival debut as Elisabeth in Tannhäuser. She also sings the role for her return to Zurich Opera in March and Bayerische Staatsoper in May. Arias from Tannhäuser will also feature on her debut album for Decca Classics, which is slated for release in Spring 2019.

The Queen of Spades is conducted by Oksana Lyniv and runs until 25 January. Click here for more information and tickets.
